Prague Chamber Soloists

The Prague Chamber Soloists (PKS) is a string chamber orchestra of exceptional musicians who combine enthusiasm, interpretive maturity, respect for the traditions of the Czech string school, passion for chamber music, curiosity in discovering new compositions, spontaneous joy from shared experiences and especially friendship and collegiality, which have been created since the time of their studies and by working together in other ensembles and orchestras. The Prague Chamber Soloists are the longest-running orchestra of its kind in the Czech Republic. The violist of the Prague Symphony Orchestra stood at the birth of the ensemble in 1961. Prague FOK Hubert Šimáček and legendary conductor Václav Neumann. As the name of the orchestra chosen by them suggests, the ensemble was made up of musicians who had solo ambitions and high artistic preconditions, but at the same time submitted to the uncompromising intentions of genius composers and inspiring soloists who collaborated with PKS at the time. Among the most important were violinists Henryk Szeryng, Josef Suk, Gideon Kremer, Václav Hudeček, flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal, harpsichordist Zuzana Růžičková, conductor Libor Pešek. Over time, cellist Václav Jírovec took over the artistic direction of the ensemble, and after 2001 the ensemble was led by violinists Petr Hůla and Bohuslav Matoušek. During the respectable period of its existence, PKS has given concerts in the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, in Japan, and in Canada, and at the same time performed at major music festivals and made a number of award-winning recordings. The renewed premiere of PKS took place in 2013 as part of the Holidays of Music festival, under the artistic direction of horn player and conductor Radek Baborák. the final gala evening with soloist Adam Plachetka and repeatedly as part of the 2018 year in Bautzen, Germany. Last season, the ensemble performed within the chamber series of the Prague Symphony Orchestra - Prague FOK in the church of St. Simon and Judy.

The PKS repertoire consists of masterpieces for string orchestra from the Baroque period up to the compositions of the 20th century, but it also avoids authors of the Renaissance period and completely contemporary postmodernist opuses created in the 21st century.
