One hundred and thirty Czech musicians and music professionals headed to Groningen in the Netherlands in mid January to the prestigious Eurosonic Noorderslag conference and showcase festival, with a special Czech-Slovak focus.

From the 16th to the 19th of January, 2019, visitors of Eurosonic experienced sixteen concerts from Czech bands and musicians, special video-mapping featuring Czechoslovak history and participated in three panel discussions presenting Czech professionals. The Czech-Slovak focus, organized by the Czech export office, SoundCzech, founded by the The Arts and Theatre Institute, and Slovak partner, Pohoda festival, presented these Czech artists: Bohemian Cristal Instrument, Circus Brothers, Floex & Tom Hodge, Hellwana, Lazer Viking, Lenny, Manon Meurt, Mydy Rabycad, Pipes And Pints, Thom Artway and Zabelov Group.

“According to the Eurosonic Noorderslag organizers, this was one of the most successful focus in the history of the event. Full shows, positive reactions by the audience, numerous reactions in international media, but also immediate feedback by the artists themselves, who came back from the Netherlands with a large number of offers. The printed guide to the Czech-Slovak scene, created in cooperation with Full Moon Magazine, was also successful,” summarizes Eurosonic Márton Náray, director of the Czech music export office, SoundCzech.

Eurosonic Noorderslag is the largest and oldest European music showcase festival and conference that each year presents a selected European music scene. The festival includes 350 shows, a rich conference program, and an attendance of around 40,000 visitors, including 4,000 music professionals, from around the world. Due to the growing interest of the music industry in the Central European space, the anniversary of the creation of Czechoslovakia and the activity of the Czech music export office, SoundCzech, the organizers decided to organize the first dual focus in the history of Eurosonic Noorderslag, focused on the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Czech-Slovak focus was financially supported by the Czech music export office, SoundCzech, established by the The Arts & Theatre Institute, Ochranný svaz autorský (OSA) and Svaz autorů a interpretů.
